From Local Reports

CANTON - The Pioneer High School boys swim team had 48 opportunities.

But Zeeland edged the Pioneers, 283-281, to win Salem's Rock-Kilgore Invitational. Salem was fifth (105) and Canton last (90) out of six teams.

In each of the nine individual events, there were four heats, with one athlete from each school competing. There were three heats of each relay.

"I can't complain about the way the kids swam. They did a good job. We have to make sure we take care of those close races," Pioneer coach Denny Hill said.

Sho Koba led Pioneer by winning the fastest heats of the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and anchoring both winning freestyle relays.
